Geraldine Rojas was born and raised in Valley Stream, NY, 30 minutes outside of Manhattan. As a child, she had New York City as her backyard. At the age of four, her mother put her in dance class to get her out of the house. Thus started a love affair with the arts that would never stop. Though she attempted karate, gymnastics, and ice skating, nothing stuck the way dancing did. On her mother's birthday, a week before Christmas, they'd to go to the city and watch a Broadway show. Geraldine was hooked to the stage, lights, costumes and, of course, the dancing.
Her second love is animals and for a very long time she thought she'd become a veterinarian. However, when she attended a vocational arts school for dance at BOCES Cultural Arts Center, she decided to try and make a living from her one true calling. She attended Adelphi University as a dance major, graduating with a B.F.A. in Dance. While there, she also minored in business in order to understand both sides of show biz.
Adelphi helped hone her skills and confidence, and it was time to hit the mean streets. She went out into the real world, finding a job in Atlantic City in a Latin Revue show called Latin Sol. She also danced for a modeling contest show, was a dancer for Latin pop star Carlos Ponce, and was a show girl for a tour of the Rat Pack Show.
She was happy with how things were going but she missed musical theater. She got the courage to start taking singing classes in order to pursue that dream, leading her to perform in shows such as Crazy for you, Sugar Babies, West Side Story, and Will Rogers Follies.
Just recently she had the opportunity to travel the world on Regent Seven Seas. She was excited to be able to travel, see the world and do what she loves the most: perform. So she did. It also allowed her to see Buenos Aires again, one of her favorite cities in the world. Traveling in Brazil also gave her the chance to work on a new language, Portuguese (she's already fluent in Spanish). Soon after the South America contract, she landed the world cruise and literally looped the world on a ship, doing what she loves, meeting incredible people and seeing places that she thought not even in her wildest dreams she'd see. Some where in mist of everything she met her love and had moved to Rome, Italy for some time where she is explored the culture and learned the language.
Now back with her feet firmly planted in NYC is looking for her next chapter in her performers career. She was blessed to have been chosen to participate in Broadway Bares for the past 10 years and had lit the fire in her to push forward into her next endeavors!
She's excited to be starting a new chapter in her life and is taking it as it comes. She is extremely grateful for all the people that have come in and out of her life. If it wasn't for them, she would be the person she is today.
Dancing is my oxygen. I only pray that everyone can find their escape to help them breathe as I do.
